SERVESKRITI '09 : Registration for Annual Convention
Friday, November 20, 2009
SERVESKRITI ’09 is here!!
Serveskriti ’09 is the flagship management event of the MBA (Management of Services) course of the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS). The event will be organized on 19th and 20thDecember, 2009.
This year’s Serveskriti revolves around the theme Services: Transcending Horizons.
The current era places consumer-oriented focus on a higher mantle of importance to the companies. A focus, which presents an opportunity to the companies to not only satisfy customer needs, but to go beyond and reach the next horizon of customer delight, the stage where companies try to outwit each other not in the race to fulfil the expectations of the customer, but to exceed them by a fair margin.
Centering around two primary facets of the theme – Co-creation and Innovation, Serveskriti has two major sessions:
1. Co-creation as a competitive advantage
Co-creation, connecting people’s brains is explored as a viable solution to the increasingly crowded and intensely competitive playing field of companies, clamouring for that precious piece of sales from the customer. We try to answer the question ‘Is co-creation the way to build brand-loyalty?’
2. Experience Innovation
Innovation as the way forward. Understanding that outsourcing and re-engineering, however rosy they may sound, are only a backdrop to the primarily solution of innovation leading the way to success.
The session explores the viability of innovation as the next step to success of the organization.
Previous editions of Serveskriti
Serveskriti 2008:
Based on the theme of “Services: Captivation through Innovation”, the event discussed the holy grail combination of excellent class and innovation blended into a seamless merge.
Serveskriti 2007:
Revolving around “Services-jumping into higher value orbit”, the conclave discussed the way forward for Services to shift into the higher gear of success, superiority and overall growth.
Serveskriti 2006:
The 2006 edition of Serveskriti took a panoramic view of the ‘experience economy’, illustrating the need of the consumers to find service experiences complementing their lifestyles and aspirations.
A Wave of knowledge and experience is about to flood FMS. Be there to enjoy and learn from it!!

Prof. John Mullins to launch his book 'Getting to Plan B' at FMS
About the book:
The book deals with the implementation of business plans. Emphasis is laid on the fact that no matter how beautiful a plan might look on paper, there might be infinite uncertainties and roadblocks on its path to success as soon as it confronts the harsh corporate jungle out there.
The authors highlight that every entrepreneur, and for that matter, anyone intending to enter a new domain of business should also have an understanding of how to get to plan B, the next plan which takes care of the contingencies and oversights which might have been missed in the optimistic plan A.
The book will help entrepreneurs understand the points where the plan includes overly ambitious assumptions, and, perhaps more importantly, help them test and reconfigure those very same assumptions, to create a much sounder plan B.
About Prof. John Mullins
John W. Mullins is Associate Professor of Management Practice and Chair of the Entrepreneurship group at London Business School. He earned his MBA at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Ph.D in marketing from the University of Minnesota.

Guest Lecture by Mr. Rajat Mathur, Morgan Stanley
Mr. Mathur talked about HR as a career option, outlining what constitutes HR Strategies across organizations, what sort of HR policies are in vogue, and, perhaps most importantly, what is in store for the budding HR managers at FMS.
Taking examples from his diverse experience of 15-odd years, working in different positions in different organizations, Mr. Mathur shed light on a lot of 'myths' that people have about HR as a department, as well as the people working in there.
In a pretty crisp fashion, he answered a lot of queries from the aspiring students at FMS, (with aplomb, it might be added!).
All in all, for the students of FMS, it was an enriching session, developing new dimensions and perspectives for them to look upon HR as a critical element of the functioning of organizations across the globe.

HARVEST '09
FMS MBA (MS) presents Harvest ' 09.
Human Resources might appear to be the ‘logical’ area of implementing cost-cutting measures in these troubled times of a global meltdown. Various companies have initiated mass layoffs and stringent employee appraisal systems as a reaction to the worldwide financial crisis.
We, at FMS MBA (MS), however, believe that HR as a department has a major role to play in the road to recovery. Yes, they might need to evolve and adapt to deal with this crisis situation, even to the extent of major policy changes. But still, they will be in the thick of things to come if there is to be any hope of a recovery.
Hence, with Harvest ’09, the Annual HR Conclave of FMS MBA (MS), we pitch together the industry experts and the management students onto the same platform to discuss various pertinent issues on HR policies like:
To what extent does a business plan include a people strategy?
What is the role of HRM in the current scenario?
Are recruitment policies of organizations static or dynamic?
The war for talent in a tough job market: The role of ‘poaching’ and many more.
Distinguished personalities from the world of HR are expected to grace the event, which include:
Dr. Mala Sinha, Faculty of Management Studies (Keynote Address)
Mr. Sebi Chacko, Head Human resource, South Asia, Thomson Reuters
Mr. Ashu Malhotra, Head Human resource India, Alcatel Lucent
Ms. Vijaya G., Head HR Corporate, Fortis Healthcare Limited
Mr. Abhay Kapoor, GM Human resource, Ranbaxy laboratories Ltd., India
Mr. Ashish Anand, Sr. Vice President, Religare Enterprises Ltd.
The event is sure to discuss and dissect all the concerns around HR policies across the globe. It promises to be an enlightening experience for one and all. Be There!!
The event is to be held on 20th September, from 2.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

ConneXion '09
For the adventurous few who are not afraid to venture into the unknown, FMS MBA (MS) presents ConneXion ’09, an initiative by the Entrepreneurship Cell at FMS, South Campus in association with NEN. ConneXion ‘09 is an event aimed to provide a platform to the budding entrepreneurs to gain an insight into the exciting and challenging journey of a startup. It gives students an opportunity to gain a real-life experience of working in a startup, understand the potential risks as well as potential benefits of entrepreneurship as a career path.
The pre-event structure involves companies sharing the projects that they would like to offer to the students, followed by students applying for them by sending in their resumes. The projects may be related to client work, problem areas in company’s sales or operations, or market feedback on company’s products/services. During the event, the companies will visit the Campus, give presentations about their core area of business and the projects on offer for the students, and select interested students through interviews. These students will then work closely with the company for a specified duration.
We hope that Connexion ’09 will bring out the best abilities of potential entrepreneurs, nurture them, and aid them in their growth. As a country, entrepreneurs and people who can carve out their own niche are a huge asset to bank upon. Connexion ‘09 is one small step towards that shining goal.
